National Latino Evangelical Leaders are calling President elect Barack Obama, to initiate legislation for Immigration Reform during the first 100 days"

WASHINGTON, DC- The National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders (CONLAMIC) the largest Hispanic pastors advocacy organization in the Country urges President Elect Barack Obama to initiate and provide immediate leadership to move legislation on behalf of 12 million undocumented immigrants and grant them temporary legal status in the first 100 days after his inauguration as President of the United States of America.

"President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress are the unique and historic position to bring moral closure to this issue and obtain an immediate and prompt solution that achieves Comprehensive Immigration Reform. This issue is the most vital concern of Latino voters, demonstrated significantly by a significant increaes in Hispanic voter participation this recent election," says Rev. Miguel Rivera, Chairman of CONLAMIC.

"Our prayers are with President Elect Barack Obama as we understand that tough times are ahead as he steps into a dire national economic crisis to roll out his domestic agenda. Many other "interests" groups are already a lining themselves to promote their agenda and our main concern is the thousands of Latino undocumented immigrants and their families, members of our congregations, who are constantly reminded about their legal status and its consequences as many more of them are facing deportation even happening to President Obama's elderly aunt", says also Dr. Antonio Bolainez, CONLAMIC South-Region Vice-President from Texas.

"We are also calling for a moratorium and to cease the implementation of the 287-G program, that has empowered local authorities with immigration responsibilities, providing an environment suitable for the increment on racial profiling and the violation of civil and human rights against many decent, hard working legal immigrants", said also the Rev. Rivera.

Members of CONLAMIC Board of Directors are delivering a written request to be considered by the President's elect transition team, with the understanding that such an issue, deserves rapid attention before other political forces, start their attack against such legislation as happened after the Democratic takeover in Congress in 2006.
