National Coalition of Latino Clergy Responds to James Dobson's Comments about John McCain

Washington, DC – The National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders, an evangelical pastors’ advocacy organization, is calling on Dr. James Dobson and other National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) officials, to refrain immediately in their efforts to bring division among conservative voters and bashing political personalities and elected members of Congress, such as Senator John McCain.

"The comments of Dr. Dobson regarding a fellow conservative, Senator McCain, must be rejected by all conservative advocacy organizations. These comments will undoubtedly cause division and confusion among the conservative constituencies who rely on us to identify who our friends are as we advocate and defend the conservative issues that are important to us," said the Rev. Miguel Rivera, President of the National Coalition of Latino Clergy & Christian Leaders.

In the past, the leaders of the 16,000 thousand churches represented by the National Coalition of Latino Clergy, have been greatly disappointed with Dr. Dobson and members of NAE, due to their opposition to comprehensive immigration reform (sponsored by Senator John McCain) and their actions that have derailed other legislative initiatives such as the "Dream Act".

"Senator McCain is a friend of the Latino evangelical church, a true fiscal conservative, and a man of principal who has earned our trust," said Rev. Rivera.
