Latino Pastors Praise the President's State of the Union Speech

Washington, DC-The National Coalition of Latino Clergy & Christian Leaders praise President George W. Bush, for the outstanding State of the Union speech he delivered yesterday from the U.S. Capitol.

Since the beginning, President Bush has demonstrated gracious and honorable etiquette at its best. An excellent example is when he extended a welcome note to the first "madam speaker" of the house of representatives, a historic moment for this nation, and experienced for the first time by a president in office and by congress."

During his speech, President Bush acknowledge the new Democratic majority in congress and opened a new set of legislative initiatives that he hopes will be accomplished with bipartisan support," said Reverend Miguel Rivera, President of the National Coalition of Latino Clergy & Christian Leaders.

"On behalf of our constituency of Latino evangelical churches and pastors, we welcome the President's call for a comprehensive immigration reform that will bring a legal path of permanent resident status to our fellow undocumented Latino immigrants in this nation," said Rev. Rivera.

As Members of Congress start a new legislative session with critical issues such as the war on terror, military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a comprehensive package of domestic policy initiatives, it is our prayer that each senator and member of congress, will devote his or her best to accomplish what the American people are expecting - a true working congress that will deliver a new path of moral and social justice, preserving the high democratic standards of our nation, in the best interest of all American's," concluded Rev. Rivera.
