Bienvenidos to All Members of the 110th Congress

Bienvenidos......welcome. The National Coalition of Latino Clergy/CONLAMIC, the largest Latino christian advocacy organization, says "Bienvenidos" to all members of the 110th Congress, to Washington, DC.

"Having the Democrats as a majority in Congress, creates an unusual and rare sense of enthusiasm, knowing that issues such as comprehensive immigration reform and stem cell research will have a better chance to become a reality. By the same token, conservative nominees to federal courts will have a more difficult time getting confirmed," says the Reverend Miguel Rivera, President of CONLAMIC, which advocates on behalf of over 16,000 thousand churches affiliates in 32 States.

CONLAMIC will be very active in Washington for the next 13 weeks in preparation for our visit to capitol hill at the end of March for the CONLAMIC legislative briefings. Over 500 Latino pastors from all over the nation are due to arrive."

Legislative initiatives such as the Dream Act and the Immigration bill introduced by Senators John McCain and Ted Kennedy are a priority on CONLAMIC's list to support as thousands of members of our churches are expecting their prayers to be answered. The tension created by Club Tancredo and Sensenbrenner brought much anxiety and frustration. This club and its supporters uncovered racial intolerance as a discrimination epidemic took over in many cities around the country where thousands of Latino families are forced to live in fear.
